Speculation: RV790: Who knows?
Well, I may very well have been wrong about the RV790’s name. It’s being consistently heralded as the HD 4890 by other tech sites so I have to reconsider my position on it as the HD 4970. Right now, this is all speculation of course, but the details will become clearer as time goes on. Rumors of clockspeed range from 850MHz to 950MHz and beyond, 800 stream processors or 960, but nobody knows for sure. Its not certain whether its a 55nm or 40nm part either, an actual architecture improvement or simple stopgap to overtake the GTX 260 216. We’ll just have to wait and see.
